How we claim to live and how we actually live often looks different. In the book of Colossians, Paul calls the believers to spiritual transformation: to change our lives based off of our new values in Christ. To do this, we must first hear, believe, and then act on what God is calling us to do.

Although Jesus and His message have often been distorted, His message is clearly conveyed in the bible: The path to salvation and reconciliation with God is through faith, based on Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. No one is ever too far gone to accept this free gift of forgiveness. 

An Invitation to Suffer

Life on Earth will bring suffering whether we are Christians or not. As Christians, we can suffer meaningfully by giving our lives to Christ, serving His people, and sharing in His afflictions. 

Avoiding Capture

Christians are in a spiritual war against both Satan and worldly, human ideas. In order to avoid capture, we need to start a relationship with God, become aware of our vulnerabilities, hold firmly to grace, and root ourselves in God's community and God's word.

Christians are given a new identity in Christ because of his sacrifice on the cross and payment for our sins. Yet, we also have our old, sinful nature still at play in us. By understanding our new identity more and more, we can spiritually grow and abstain from our old, sinful desires.

Many Christians expect a list of rules to follow in order to act more like Jesus. God has a different plan: to change our inner being so that we can become more like Jesus and live in line with our new identity. God wants to grow us to be sacrificial, humble, compassionate, and forgiving people.

God wants us to change our lives through His love, His forgiveness, and our new identity. Dwelling on God's word allows Him the opportunity to transform us and bring us the inner peace that comes from knowing Christ better.

God highly values the marriage relationship and has based it off of Christ's relationship with the church. Christians should strive to sacrificially love their spouses and pray for transformation in times of difficulty.
