Basic Mind-set: Worldly or Godly?

Gary DeLashmutt
James 4:13-17

A worldly mind-set is autonomous, self-sufficient, and compartmentalized. A godly mind-set makes pursuing God's will over one's onw will a priority, acknowledges one's radical weakness, and follows God's will in all areas of one's life.

Doing Good for Society

Jim Leffel
Titus 3:1-2

In the context of the Roman-political climate, Paul commands the believers to be obedient to the authorities despite the cultural tension. He also commands the believers to show consideration to others as a way of demonstrating God's love.

Family, God's Way

Scott Risley
Ephesians 6:1-4

Children need godly parents to show them the way to live. They in turn are called to obey when young, and honor their parents when older. In Greco-Roman times, the father was the ultimate authority, but Peter points out that God is in authority over the father. God calls the father to bring their children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Doing What We Thought Was Impossible!

Clive Calver
Ephesians 6:1-4

We may disagree with some commandments in Scripture, but does that make them wrong? This session will explore achieving the impossible by taking God's Word seriously.

The Master Teacher and the Rich Young Man

Taelor Gray
Ephesians 6:1-4

In Mark 10 a rich young man displays his religious expertise to gain affirmation from the Master Teacher. Instead, Jesus invites him to follow a revolutionary command--this man sadly refused. His response gives us a peek into our hearts. True conversion repositions our priorities, giving us a new way to respond to Jesus.

Global Persecution

Clive Calver
Ruth Calver
Ephesians 6:1-4

Dr. Calver and his wife Ruth have visited with many Christians who regularly face intense persecution for their faith, and instead of being defeated by it, find these Christians are more passionate about sharing their faith and their churches often flourish. Conversely Dr. Calver says a long-term absence of persecution often demonstrates that a church has sold out. While God never promises a lack of suffering, He does promise His presence in the midst of it, and uses the pain to make us into what we should be, closer to Him and more useful to Him.\r\n

The Garden of Gethsemane

Ryan Lowery
Matthew 26:30-43

In the Garden of Gethsemane, we see Jesus' true nature, as he relates to God with the prospect of the cross ahead. Jesus asks God if there is any other way, but as God's perfect servant, humbles himself before God's will to offer payment for people's sins through his death on the cross. If we humble ourselves before God's will, even when it causes us to suffer, we will see God bring about growth and maturity in our lives.

Responding to Our Fears

Gary DeLashmutt
2 Chronicles 20:1-27

When King Jehoshaphat heard a great multitude was bearing down on Judah, His first response was fear but his second response was to turn to the Lord in prayer. His prayer focused on God's sovereignty and faithfulness. He acknowledged their utter helplessness and awaited God's direction. God responded with fortification and direction. Jehoshaphat responded in obedience to God's direction even though it it was a very scary step of faith. God spectacularly delivered them from their fears by defeating the armies arrayed against them as all of Judah stood by and watched.

The Days of Noah

Scott Risley
1 Peter 3:17-20

Like in the days of Noah when God patiently waited for people to turn to Him, so too does God long to rescue us today. In the days of Noah, God had Noah build an ark to rescue people and animals from the impending judgment of a flood. Today, we have the finished work that Christ accomplished on the cross, taking our judgment upon Himself. Instead of boarding a boat, we can simply put our trust in Jesus to save us.
